TEAM INFO

Lost Creek Cruzers has various age groups/abilities in which your swimmer will fit into.  All initial placements are based on age of April 30th, 2012.   Our coaches may want to place a swimmer in another age group for practices and meets; this is decided solely by our coaches, and it will be based on ability. Cruzers is a recreational swim league, and attendance is not mandatory.  Although, the more you practice, the more improvement you will see.  Improvement will be recognized in each age group with a most improved prize every week for both girls and boys.

Throughout the season, each age group will participate in "Red Rock Day". This is when the coaches will give a challenge swim, and if a 100% effort is given, a red rock will be awarded to the swimmer.  The swimmer will then be able to exchange the red rock for a prize.

6 and Unders

This age group is for ages 5-6.  You must be able to jump in and swim the length of the pool on your own to be placed in this group.  Coaches will be in the pool during practices to assist swimmers, however, coaches are not allowed to be in the water during a swim meet.  You can expect for most of these swimmers to learn how to do the freestyle and some backstroke.  Most cannot do breaststroke and butterfly.  We will also introduce dives, and relays.

7-8

This group is for ages 7 and 8.    This group is an introduction to the sport of swimming.  Most swimmers in this group have mastered freestyle and backstroke.  During practices you can expect to see a lot of technique specific drills.  Our motto with this age is "Quality, not quantity!" By the end of the season you can expect your child will have been introduced to all four competitive strokes, the individual medley, their respective dives, and relays.

9-10

This group is for ages 9-10.  Most of these swimmers have had summer swim team experience, but not all.  Most have been introduced to all of the four competitive stokes, the IM, and their respective dives.  You can expect your swimmer to be introduced to more advanced stroke drills to improve their strokes.  All swimmers will learn to dive for each event, as well as learn a competitive relay start.  It is expected that each swimmer try the IM in at least 1 meet.

11 and ups

This group is for ages of 11-18.  Here all swimmers practice together but compete in different age groups, 11-12, 13-14, 15-18.  Most of these swimmers have had summer swim team experience.  They should have general knowledge of each competitive stroke, the IM, and their respective dives.  This group will be required to swim an IM in at least one meet.  All groups will compete in 50 meter events, except 11-12 compete in the 25 meter fly.  They will be introduced to each stroke turn, flip or open, and will be expected to do them in swim meets. At the beginning of the season, we will ease into the amount of meters swum at each practice. However, at this level of swimming, endurance is a main focus of practice.
